For your perusal, the last of the Big Three James Dean films, George Stevens' Giant. A long movie split perfectly into two pieces, each gives a slightly different view on Texas life and a married couple living in the mid-1900s before Texas had oil millionaires and life was about ranching and farming.
The first half of the movie is more a romance about the married couple, but my preferred and much beloved second half is more about ranching Texans trying to exist in a world of oil and money and no cows. Even though the first part has some slight commentary about racism and mistreatment of immigrant Mexicans, the second part has it in oodles, complete with James Dean calling someone's wife "a squaw".
Starring Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor as the often fighting, idealistic in different ways, but always in love married couple. They're joined by the one and only in his last film appearance, James Dean as Jett Rink, and look for the very young Dennis Hopper in the second half, as well as Rod Taylor.
