Dogma #4 is very different from the 3 first. So far it was also the most ambitious. Taking place in Africa and starring a international cast. A bus packed with tourist run out of fuel in the middle of the African desert. The only sign of civilization is a abandoned German mine area only inhabited by a old native man. One from the group, Jack, show up to be an expert in surviving, and after giving the other the best advice he can, he leave to find help at the nearest village. The rest must wait at the mine to get saved. In the beginning they all think positive. An old writer get the rather naive idea to perform KING LEAR right at the place while their waiting. But time passes. Jack have not returned, the water are running dry and conflicts are created between everyone. The group must face poisonous food, abuse, rape, suicide, murder and insanity before they will be saved. Both outdoor and indoor scenes look awesome. It is really incredible what they can do with a hand-held camera and no additional light. I think the desert areas are great settings. I have read reviews of this movie, complaining that there isn't much more conflicts in this movie than the groups isolation. But it works fine for me. The motivations for the actions is believable. There is one flaw though. It is kind of explained why the old man at the mine never help the group, but it is never really explained how he could survive all that time. That is still a minor flaw, and don't ruin thew picture.
