In early September, a horrific accident struck the set of Michael Bay's Transformers 3 in which an extra named Gabriela Cedillo had her skull sliced open on set in Hammond, Indiana. In the initial report, a "confidential informant" was quoted saying "Holy shit is somebody's head gonna roll over this one. SO many things against industry standards, don't know where to start! Bay should be starting to sweat right about now." It appears that now the other shoe is dropping.
Chicago Breaking News reports that the Cedillo's family is taking legal action against Paramount and suing the studio for negligence. The family's lawyer, Todd A. Smith, says that the 24-year-old woman is now permanently brain damaged. According to the report, the stunt went wrong when a cable attached to the bottom of one of the stunt cars came loose. The family is blaming the studio for faulty welding, poor bracket design and allowing extras to be too close to the stunt. Paramount has issued a statement, saying "We are all terribly sorry that this accident occurred. Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with Gabriela, her family and loved ones. The production will continue to provide all the help we can to Gabriela and her family during this difficult time."
It was previously reported that Paramount would be paying all of the girl's medical bills, but should all of the lawyers claims be true, the studio could be in quite a bit of trouble. After about a month in rehab, Cedillo has begun to write and mouth words. Here's hoping that she can one day recover from these tragic events.
