Roman Kachanov - Avrora AKA Aurora (1973)

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6120/08aurora.jpg

The Aurora (Авро́ра) is a Russian protected cruiser, currently preserved as a museum ship in St. Petersburg. She became a symbol of the Communist Revolution in Russia.
During the First World War the ship operated in the Baltic Sea. At the end of 1916, the ship was moved to Saint Petersburg (then Petrograd) for a major repair. The city was brimming with revolutionary ferment and part of her crew joined the 1917 February Revolution. A revolutionary committee was created on the ship (Aleksandr Belyshev was elected its captain). Most of the crew joined the Bolsheviks, who were preparing for a Communist revolution.
On 25 October 1917, the refusal of an order for the Aurora to take to sea sparked the October Revolution. At 9.45 p.m. on that date, a blank shot from her forecastle gun signalled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace, which was to be the last episode of the October Revolution. Aurora's crew actually took part in the attack. (read more on wikipedia)

The film tells the story about a boy who learns about the history of the heroic cruiser Aurora by visiting the museum ship, his friend, a composer, who writes a heroic song about the cruiser, and how the Aurora became the coolest battleship on the kids' playground. History lesson for young soviet citizens in the Brezhnev era.

From Wikipedia:

Cheburashka is a fairy tale creature from a story by the Russian writer Eduard Uspensky. He is also the hero of the animated film series by Soyuzmultfilm studio.

Cheburashka has a bear-like body and large round ears and is about the size of a 5-year old child. The gender of the creature is most likely male. In the tale, he hangs around with a friendly crocodile Gena, who wears a hat and a coat, walks on his hind legs and plays an accordion. He works in a zoo as a Crocodile.

In the cartoon, Cheburashka and Gena have their adventures made difficult by a character named Old Lady Shapoklyak. Shapoklyak is a mischievous but charming old lady. She is tall and thin, wears a hat and a dark-colored dress, and carries around her sidekick rat "Lariska" in her purse to help play pranks on people.

Cheburashka is now a staple of Russian cartoons, and there are several licensed products on the market, such as children's anecdotal books and stuffed toys.

Cheburashka also became known in some countries outside the former Soviet Union (and of the Soviet Bloc). He became very popular in Japan after animated film series about him were shown in 15 cinemas all over Japan and were watched by approx. 700,000 Japanese between summer 2001 and spring 2002".
