Superman No More, Brandon Routh Signs On For Missing William
Despite fan support and expressed interest in the role, Zack Snyder, the newly appointed director of the Superman reboot, said that it's unlikely that Brandon Routh will be strapping on the red and blue tights again. Presumably a move by Warner Bros. to distance themselves from Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, the decision can't feel too good for an actor who made a name for himself because of the role. It doesn't seem like his pouting, though, as he's already taken on a new role.
The Wrap reports that Routh has signed on to a film called Missing William, which is also expected to co-star his real-life wife Courtney Ford. In the film, Ford will play the wife of a man critically injured in a bar fight. While helping him recover, she runs into a childhood sweetheart (played by Routh) who "tries to coax her back into living her life again," leading to a love triangle. The film will be directed by Kenn Macrae based on a script by Daniel McKinnon.
I thought Routh was great in his small role in Zack and Miri Make A Porno and perfect in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but this film sounds like over-sentimental and tacky. Perhaps it can be lifted by it's performances, but there's only so far you can go with a log line that dull.
