This film is among the later ones of Michel Soutter, а swiss director, who along with Alain Tanner and Claude Goretta was part of the major trio of the “New Swiss Cinema” of the 60's and 70's.

The vicissitudes of showbiz take the hero Renart and his girlfriend Hermeline from up to down and back again in this brief drama. Renart is a nightclub artist, who entertains public by pulling objects out of a suitcase on stage and creating a wide range of sound effects with his collection of odds and ends. All goes well until his Hermeline is fired from her job at the club because of her pregnancy. That infuriates Renart and he quits. They take off for the moutains and settle in a country house.

He meets his old friends and rents a disused factory to present shows. But now when he is the owner, Renart is transformed for the worse. Along with that his pastlife comes again; his boss wants to charge him for his insult and gets a killer to go in search of him.
