No fan of Hong Kong cinema can miss out on Triangle, the highly anticipated heist film directed in relay by three of the territory's greatest directors - Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam, and Johnnie To. The first Hong Kong film made in relay, Triangle sees each director taking charge of a film segment, bringing in his own production team and screenwriters to continue the story set in motion by the previous director. The film's title, Triangle, refers to both the acclaimed trio of filmmakers and to the uneasy brotherhood of three formed by leads Simon Yam (Election), Louis Koo (Flash Point), and charismatic Mainland actor Sun Honglei (Blood Brothers). The film also co-stars Kelly Lin (After This Our Exile) and Johnnie To regulars Gordon Lam and Lam Suet. Tsui Hark, in his first offering since Seven Swords, starts the film off with an offbeat heist and a heady throw-'em-up of intriguing plot threads; Ringo Lam escalates the action, hurling the protagonists onto a fatalistic road. Johnnie To caps Triangle with a signature finale, complete with smile-tugging black comedy and beautifully choreographed shootout, for one of the most unique and entertaining Hong Kong films of recent years.
Small-timer Fai (Louis Koo), his harried buddy Sam (Simon Yam), and antique store owner Mok (Sun Honglei) are all in desperate need of money. Fai wants his friend to drive a robbery getaway car but Sam backs out, throwing Fai in trouble with the triads. As the three are arguing, a mysterious man leaves them a map, leading them to an unlikely treasure under the Legislative Council building. All their financial woes seem to be solved after a late-night heist, but they are being tracked by shady cop Wen (Gordon Lam), who is carrying on an affair with Sam's emotionally unstable wife Ling (Kelly Lin) and has connections with Fai. When the twisted relationship tangles come to light, the brotherhood dangerously breaks down and the treasure ends up in the wrong hands.
