Wolverine 2 To Start Filming In March 2011

A week after seeing the epic disaster that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I wouldn't have believed you if you told me that a sequel would be going into production, particularly if you mentioned that it would be Darren Aronofsky behind the camera. The first film was such an incredible mess that I thought it would be more likely that they would burn all of the negatives in a bonfire. Needless to say, I was as shocked as anyone when it came out last week that the deal was all but signed for Aronofsky to take the helm, and now it appears that they have a start date.

Deadline reports that while the deal isn't 100% closed, Fox is now kicking pre-production into high gear, discussing sound stage locations and timelines for the project. According to the article, the studio is now targeting a March start date and will split time between sound stages in New York and, presumably, on-location shooting in Japan. The plan to film in New York is so that both Aronofsky and star Hugh Jackman can spend time with their families, and the start date is so that the director will have free time around award season while he's promoting Black Swan, which is also being put out by Fox.

My head is still spinning from all of this. The director of Requiem For A Dream and The Wrestler is about to handle a character with an adamantium skeleton, claws, and regenerative healing powers based on a script by the writer of The Usual Suspects. The only question that remains is how they plan to screw this one up.
