survivor philippines palau: premieres in philippine tv on august 17

last year breakthrough hit in philippine reality television, survivor philippines will launch its second season, survivor philippines palau on monday, august 17 in gma 7. this season, survivor will go to palau, the same location where the us version's 10th (survivor palau) and 16th (survivor micronesia) was filmed.

the new set of 16 castaways are:

> louie ang (24, pasig) - an IT professional and is dubbed as "the chickboy"
> mika batchelor (25, palawan) - "the sexy chef" who is a chef and restaurateur in palawan
> cris bolado (39, quezon) - dubbed as the "gentle giant;" the oldest among the men but definitely the most recognizable one, a former basketball player who has played in the PBA
> echo caceres (20, bicol) - "the spicy bicolana," a call center agent and her family's breadwinner from albay
> amanda coolley van cooll (25, mindoro) – “probinsyanang tisay,”
> charles fernandez (21, dagupan) – a general labor construction worker in alaska
> justine ferrer (29, caloocan) – “the beauty queen,” worked as a singer in Japan before but now owns a buy and sell business and managed a baby ultrsound company
> jef gaitan (22, laguna) – “the girl next door,” a model who stopped school since 18 to focus on her career
> carol gementiza (45, iloilo) – “istriktong guro,” the oldest among the castaways, and a public school teacher for more than 20 years
> marvin keifer (18, cagayan de oro) – “the ultimate crush,” the youngest among the castaways; he is swiss – filipino and is a backpacker and environmentalist; had tv exposure before through qtv 11’s hired where he won to be a model of a designer jeans company
> tara jane macias (19, cebu) – “taray queen,” an english tutor and is said to be the sister of season 1 castaway, chev macias
> vlad nesas (24, las pinas) – “the metrosexual,” an industrial design major, varsity swimmer and model
> troy perez (27, manila) – “the mentalist,” a biology major, works ina bank and is a magician
> shaun rodriguez (31, zambales) – “the hot dad,” a PR staff in Manila’s city council office, has experienced bankruptcy when his investment was lost due to the closure of a mining company he invested in
> maya segovia (32, batangas) – “the lady pilot,” a military officer and a pilot of the philippine air force; considers herself a man trapped in a woman’s body
> sadatsugu suzuki (21, tondo) – “japinoy hunk,” grew up in japan for 18 years but stayed pinoy and now studies criminology in emilio aguinaldo college

the castaways will be divided into 2 tribes namely, koror and airai which are also tribe names in the us versions that were shot in the same location (koror in survivor palau and airai in survivor micronesia). more twists will definitely be introduced this season.

survivor philippines: naak wins week 5 reward challenge

survivor philippines' week 5 reward challenge was a modified version of the reward challenge used in the second episode of survivor micronesia fan versus favorites, see scrrenshots below (images lifted from http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/ )





this was also used as the immunity challenge in episode 7 of survivor cook islands:



the challenge involves 6 cast aways per tribe, 5 would recover keys and 1 would be the puzzle solver. One by one, each of the 5 cast aways would gat a club, swim to the platform and get on the platform. once there, they would hit a skull with a club where a key is hidden. they would then dive into the water, retrieve the key and swim back. once the key is hanged on a pole, the next team member would swim out until all 6 keys are retrieved.



once all keys are on the pole, the puzzle solver will get the keys and open a trunk that contains the puzzle pieces. the first tribe to solve the puzzle wins reward. reward for this challenge is a feast containing 2 lechon de leche.


the solvers were kaye for naak and nikki for jarakay. the game was head to head during the start of the challenge until the third person. marlon hit the skull the wrong way and the key went to the deeper part of the water. he then asked for help which incurred them a 3 minute penalty. naak never looked back and eventually won the reward, winning their 2nd challenge in the series.



the reward was just in time for cris' birthday. and there is a twist, jarakay would watch them while they were eating the reward and a time limit of 30 minutes was imposed.

survivor philippines: jarakay wins week 3 reward challenge

the reward challenge for survivor philippines week 3 was the same immunity challenge from survivor micronesia episode 3, dubbed as the nut bucket challenge. in this challenge, some tribe members would act as muscles, which are task to hold their tribe net up as long as possible while the other tribe members of the opposing team are shooting and filling the net with coconuts. the first tribe whose net touches the ground loses the challenge. the only difference was that in micronesia, 4 cast aways per tribe are muscles while in survivor philippines, only 3 cast aways per tribe act as muscles. see picture below from surviuvor micronesia:

the reward for this challenge are 2 big fishes (hey, in the us version, winners are rewarded with feast, isn't 2 big fishes too small as a reward)

for naak, the muscles are kaye, cris and kiko. jarakay's muscles are gigit, nina and john. jarakay exhibited grea shooting skills, especially vern whoi almost got all her coconuts into naak's net. almost all through out the challenge, naak lag behind jarakay despite having a basketball player in their team. jaraka's consistency paid off as kiko released the rope and eventually made their net touch the ground.

jarakay again wins the challenge. to my surprise, all the cast aways got their luxury items. i thought the items were also reward. anyway. it was a ood challenge and it only shows which team really wants to win.

jarakay winning streak is now at 5. hope naak wins next time...
