Summary:
Surreal war picture featuring Burt Lancaster as a one-eyed Major committed to stopping the German war machine, one-eyed Peter Falk as a Sargeant committed to being the best baker he can be, Patrick O'Neal as an art historian/Captain wanting to save artwork and architecture, and the lovely Astrid Heeren who will do "anything" to protect her husband's castle presented in narrative form from the perspective of an African American Private yearning to write the Great American Novel. Rounding out the cast is Scott Wilson, Bruce Dern, and Michael Conrad. An early offering from the young Sydney Pollack.

Karen Blanguernon, a true knockout of a beauty, is in this film. Often uncredited, she alone makes it worth watching. But the fact that it's a Sydney Pollack film with Lancaster in it, and it's a war movie, make it required for anyone who appreciates great films and hypnotic brunettes
