One of the films that better defines that transition period in Italy, known as the boom. Based on the praised semi-autobiographical book by the same name by Luciano Bianciardi, the main character, played with a progressively fading manic energy by Ugo Tognazzi, tells his story, about going from the province where he worked as cultural responsible in the mines, to the big city, Milan, already taken by the whirl of consumism. Through fast comedic glimpses, the film goes back and forth in time. As frequently happens with italian comedies, the film ends a bit sad, in its lucid verification of a professional success based on an inevitable personal failure.
