Lucio Fulci - I Quattro dell'apocalipsse AKA Four of the Apocalypse (1975)

A vain gambler (Fabio Testi), a pregnant prostitute (Lynne Frederick), a bumbling alcoholic (Michael J. Pollard) and a man who claims to see ghosts (Harry Baird) become unlikely traveling companions in this unusual spaghetti Western from notorious Italian horror director Lucio Fulci. The only survivors of a frontier-town massacre staged to rid the once-lawful town of its overpowering criminal element, the quartet ride the Western trail in a last-ditch bid to reach the next populated area and get back on their feet. Soon drawing the attention of a trigger-happy bandit named Chaco (Tomas Milian), the four cautiously accept him into the fold when Chaco displays a remarkable talent for hunting. When their newfound friend tortures the foursome and leaves them for dead after feeding them hallucinogens, the remaining survivors' desperate bid for survival leads them to take shelter in a ramshackle mining town inhabited only by men of questionable honor. As the birth of her child draws closer, prostitute Bunny (Frederick) looks to suave gambler Stubby (Testi) for the love and support to bring her child into the world. Though the men of the town reluctantly band together to aid Bunny in the birth of her baby, Stubby finds himself torn between the prospect of fatherhood and his unquenchable thirst for revenge against the supremely evil Chaco. — Jason Buchanan (AMG)

Lucio Fulci - All'onorevole piacciono le donne AKA The Eroticist (1972)

Description: "Though today he is revered for his graphic horror films, writer-director Lucio Fulci got his start in comedy. With this in mind, The Eroticist makes perfect sense — it continues the delirious stylistic inventiveness of 'Perversion Story' and 'A Lizard in a Woman's Skin', yet its bawdy humor fits in perfectly with his origins in the cinema. The nonsensical English title implies that the film is a cash-in on William Friedkin's The Exorcist, yet the film — originally titled The Senator Likes Women! — dates from a year before the American blockbuster. Make no mistake about it: this is as far removed as imaginable for the horror genre, at least in terms of content, although the sharp satirical barbs at the Catholic Church and Italian politics fits in comfortably with many of his better known works.
Comedic performer Lando Buzzanca is ideal in the lead, conceived as a satire of the prominent Italian politician Colombo — great effort was made to make the actor resemble the real life politician, and while the gag will inevitably be lost on American audiences, one can't help but admire Fulci for his fearless tenacity, a quality that inevitably landed the film, and its co-writer/director, in a great deal of hot water. Fulci doesn't stop at lampooning conservative politics, however; he has plenty of venom for the Catholic Church, too. As embodied by loudmouth American actor Lionel Stander (Cul De Sac), the Church represents a fount of misogyny and greed for power. The Stander character instills these ethics into the painfully repressed Buzzanca character, and as he begins to question these beliefs and enjoy himself the Church finds itself in a compromised situation that may result in his being "canonized" (i.e., killed and embalmed in wax!) and made into a Saint. The broad political/religious satire may not seem unduly daring today, but it was very strong stuff for its period and much of the humor continues to play well.
As mentioned above, the film's satirical elements go hand in hand with the deliberately stylized approach. Beginning with Perversion Story in 1968, Fulci's films began to be more and more experimental — the surreal, Daliesque dream sequences of A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, for example, find their way into this film's aesthetic. Buzzanca's mental "blackouts" allow Fulci to play with this technique, as in the scene in which the character imagines an ancient piece of statuary coming to life, as he envisions a soldier astride a beautiful naked woman, or the scene in which he imagines the French ambassador's wife completely naked save for silver dollars over her nipples and a wad of cash covering her genitals. Though the film arguably loses some steam and some of its sting in the final act, The Eroticist still stands as one of Fulci's most accomplished and entertaining works." - eccentric-cinema.com

Lucio Fulci - Zombi 2 aka Zombie aka Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)

A Zombie is found aboard a boat off the New York coast which belongs to do a famous scientist. Peter West,a journalist, travels to the Antilles with Ann, the daughter of the scientist. On the way, they meet with with Brian, a ethnologist, and Susan. When they arrive at Matul Island, they find Dr. Menard, and discover a terrifying diease which is turning the Islanders into horrifying Zombies which devour human flesh and seem indestructable....

Though not director Lucio Fulci's best film, Zombie AKA Zombi 2 will always be his best known. Attempting to build off of the Italian box office success of George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead, but hearkening back more to the old-style voodoo island zombie films of the 1940s to lessen the extent to which it can be considered merely an inferior knock-off, it's a competently put together film that more than delivers the goods as far as it's raison d'etre of gory thrills is concerned, never more spectacularly than in the justly (in)famous wooden splinter through the eye gag.

Lucio Fulci - E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldila aka The Beyond (1981)

SYNOPSIS
This gruesome Louisiana-set horror film opens with a 1927 prologue featuring a Satanic artist being crucified and melted alive with quicklime in the basement of an old hotel. Half a century later, pretty Liza (Catriona MacColl) inherits the hotel, not suspecting that it is one of seven gateways to Hell. A workman breaks his neck, another has his eyeball gouged out by a zombie, a woman's head is melted by a vat of acid, and an architect has his face eaten by hungry tarantulas who chew out his tongue. Dozens of cannibalistic zombies attack Liza and her disbelieving lover (David Warbeck), who joins her in Hell in the film's downbeat conclusion. The gory special effects by Gianetto de Rossi and Germano Natali are nauseatingly effective, although the script (by Dardano Sacchetti, Giorgio Mariuzzo and director Lucio Fulci) tends to wander and the pacing is a trifle slow. (Robert Firsching on AMG)

Lucio Fulci - La Pretora aka My Sister In Law (1976)

Quote:

Lucio Fulci and Edwige Fenech? Yep, that's right. Like so many other Italian directors of the time Fulci did a lot of sex comedies so perhaps it was inevitable that at some point he would have crossed paths with one of the leading actresses. In La Pretora (the French release title translates as The Judge and the Whore) Fenech plays twin sisters, one a judge and the other a porn star. Enemies of the judge devise a plan to confuse the two and create problems. Or at least that's what seems to be happening since there's no subtitles and they would be helpful in parts. It's a bit slow going at first but there's a good bit of Fenech later in the film (the screenshot of Fenech combing her pubic hair kept being deleted by the image host so I left it out). For Fulci fans this is only for completists because it's not very Fulci-ean and has zero horror elements. It could have been done by numerous directors. Fenech fans, though, will consider it a must.
